General Description:  
The Senior Innovation Leader is responsible for leading the development of new innovative concepts from early research to development of proof of concept and ultimate deployment in Production. The role includes the investigation and application of emerging technologies as well as more established technologies in order to create differentiating products.  

  • Lead the development of innovation concepts.
  • Lead innovation workshops that identify new ideas to build the project pipeline.
  • Develop tools to gather ideas and concepts from employees, to include in project pipeline.
  • Manage innovation projects in current pipeline.
  • Define research efforts that support innovation concepts.
  • Work collaboratively with the other technology teams to support the innovation efforts.
  • Identify areas of opportunity through primary/secondary research, observation and trends.
  • Develop value propositions and business models for all innovation concepts.
  • Develop high-level business cases for all innovation concepts.
  • Lead effort to Patent ideas developed within USI.
  • Work with internal and external resources to bring concepts to a Proof of Concept prototype.
  • Work closely with the Corporate Leadership team to provide feedback and input for long-term innovation strategy and vision.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree / MBA (or similar level qualification desired).
  • 5-7 years of innovation or product development/management experience.
  • First class project management skills: demonstrated ability to organize and manage complex projects simultaneously to meet key deadlines is essential as is the ability to bring projects to successful completion. 
  • Experience leading innovation/product project teams.
  • Vendor/partner management and collaboration.
  • Market research analysis and synthesis.
  • Value proposition development.
  • Business model development.
  • Creative problem solving.
  • Proof of concept or prototype development/experience.
  • Proven insurance brokerage knowledge and experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, combined with the ability to make formal presentations to both internal and external customers.
  • Works well with geographically dispersed teams; interacts effectively with staff at all levels within the organization to gain the respect and cooperation of resources, is consumer orientated.
  • Well-developed influencing skills, strength of character, tenacity and cultural sensitivity; can be persuasive and effective.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; is confident (knows when to seek input and when to make own decisions).
  • Independent/fact-based decision-maker with good judgement, complemented by strength of personal convictions and persuasive style, autonomous and self-managed; motivated.
  • Understands and is familiar with trends/competitor activity in field of expertise and is willing to learn, understand and apply new technologies.
  • Acts with a sense of urgency and is results oriented, marked by high personal standards and commitment; balanced persona – professional in demeanor yet receptive and approachable.
  • Hands-on as necessary; able to step-up to provide effective organizational leadership when needed.
