Description and Requirements
General Description: The preparation of quarterly/annual financial statements, attend board meetings, Calculate dividends, coordination of annual CPA audits, coordination of yearend actuarial reserve studies and rate studies, perform and maintain all accounting functions and records for self insurance groups including: Cash receipts, cash disbursements, premium collection, budgeting, cash flow and bank reconciliations, all quarterly and annual filings as required by each state.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and maintain all accounting functions and records for self insurance groups, including cash receipts, cash disbursements, premium collection, budgeting, cash flow analysis and bank and investment reconciliations.
- Prepare financial statements (compared to prior year and compared to budget) and present them at the Quarterly/Annual Board Meetings.
- Prepare an annual budget.
- Calculate/recalculate dividends each year as of December 31st audited data.
- Work with investment managers; prepare cash flows.
- Coordinate and Prepare Data for the Tax Filings.
- Work with and coordinate, on behalf of the SIG's, with the SIG's actuary in preparing the annual Loss Reserve Study; and as needed and/or required, a Rate Study Analysis.
- Work with and coordinate, on behalf of the SIG's, with an independent accountant, on the yearly audit and tax filings.
- Work with and maintain a relationship with the state insurance departments in regards to the annual approval of the release of dividends, funding of the trust's security, and coordination of the trust's annual meeting.
- Any other reporting, audits, projects, etc. in order to comply with all state and federal requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 4-year accounting degree or the equivalent combination of education and work experience required.
- 5 to 10 years accounting experience required.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite of products.
- Understanding of insurance and workers compensation related legal and regulatory guidelines.
- Highly organized, with ability to manage work involving large client volume.
- Project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong accounting skills.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to take the lead on projects.
- Must have a capacity for analytical thinking.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt and multi task to meet deadlines.
