Description and Requirements

General Description:  Responsible to engineer and architect reporting initiatives using Microsoft’s BI stack and other enterprise tools.  Coordinate software development activities on initiatives to improve existing technology and streamline processes.




Key Responsibilities:

Technical Development & Support

  • Participate in code reviews and maintain code in source control (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
  • Create and maintain technical documentation and development standards.
  • Support and enhance custom software solutions and user interfaces.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and performance issues.

Data & Reporting

  • Design, develop, and maintain reports using SSRS, Excel, and SQL Server.
  • Build and support SSAS cubes and SSIS packages for ETL processes.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot nightly ETL jobs and data pipelines.
  • Leverage SQL Server Management Studio to write and optimize SQL queries.

·        Ability to read and understand more complex SQL queries.

  • Work with Excel Power Query, data sources, and VBA for reporting automation.
  • Collaborate with business units to define and refine reporting requirements.
  • Ensure data integrity, performance, and operational reliability of reporting systems.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Implement and maintain systems in accordance with USI’s Information Security Program (PISP/SISP).
  • Define access privileges and control structures to protect system assets.
  • Stay current with security updates and implement improvements.
  • Ensure secure handling of data and compliance with internal policies.

Business Systems & Project Management

  • Collaborate with business leaders and SME’s to define and refine reporting requirements.
  • Define “as-is” and “to-be” workflows, present findings to business leaders.
  • Act as a team leader working with in-house and contract developers.
  • Coordinate and manage project plans, issues logs, and task assignments.
  • Develop business cases and financial models for system enhancements or new implementations.
  • Manage system conversions, including data mapping, analysis, and configuration.
  • Write and present project status reports to stakeholders and senior management.
  • Interface with vendors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements.
  • Support Agile or other software development methodologies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 5–7 years of experience in Database Development
  • 5+ years of Microsoft BI stack: SSIS, SSAS, SSRS.
  • Advanced Excel skills including Power Query and VBA.
  • Experience with data modeling, data warehousing, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodology and project management practices.
  • Strong SQL skills; ability to write and understand complex queries.
  • Experience with insurance, sales, or commission data workflows is a plus.
  • Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple high-visibility projects in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience with Power BI, Git, and Azure DevOps is a plus.
  • Ability to travel

Salary Range:  $125,000- $140,000.  This is a bonus eligible position with a target incentive of 10%.
