General Description: This position is responsible for independently managing the marketing/placement of new account opportunities (small business) with partner insurance carriers. Responsible for providing support to Select Commercial producers as the primary resource for negotiating carrier coverages and terms, preparation of proposals, and finalizing the placement/binding process.    


  • Responsible for establishing/maintaining a relationship with production team; obtaining pertinent information via the producer to obtain a quotation
  • ·         Manage the relationship between Regional Select Commercial and carrier partners: must be able to establish and maintain a strong relationship with carrier partners
  • ·         Primary source of knowledge of appetite, market trends, pricing practices, contacts, and other underwriting policies
  • ·         Leads carrier meetings and share information with Select operations and sales
  • Primary negotiator to sell the opportunity to carrier partners for interest; to quote online via carrier rating tools, or submit to underwriter
  • Responsible for completion of marketing summary outlining terms, rates, commission, bind order documents, and carrier responses including reason for declination
  • Responsible for binding coverage with underwriters and finalizing the marketing process
  • Responsible for complete and accurate documentation in agency management systems, marketing file of each account handled
  • Required to perform essential functions; meeting service standards and best practices developed by USI
  • May be responsible for working with multiple regions at the same time and operate on a national level.
  • Additional projects and duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in Commercial Property & Casualty; a comprehensive understanding of all Property & Casualty insurance coverages, placement, underwriting and rating concepts
  • College degree preferred and insurance designations (CIC, ARM, AAI, CPCU) preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction, strong business acumen, and a high degree of frequency
  • Sales driven and solution oriented to help meet production and growth goals
  • Ability to creatively and proactively problem solve and negotiate
  • Sets priorities and manages workflow to ensure efficient, timely, and accurate work
  • Informed regarding industry and new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance
  • Knowledge of agency management system, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales and service processes
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • College degree preferred
  • Must hold state Property & Casualty insurance license or willing to obtain one within an agreed upon timeframe
  • Maintain a cordial and effective relationship with production team, co-workers, carriers, vendors, and other business contacts; ability to work in a team environment
  • Effective interactions/communications with others; cooperating purposefully and providing information, guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of USI

Physical Demands: Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment; limited to no exposure to chemicals and toxins. Employees operate office equipment; telephone – headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine. Physical tasks of job: walking, sitting, standing, bending, and typing.

  • Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk
  • Frequently (34% - 66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand, and bend
  • Occasionally (1% - 33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work, and occasionally reach outward to grab items, and bend
  • Rarely (<1 hour per week) work performed requires lifting/carrying items that range from 10 – 50 lbs., pushing/pulling items that range from 10 – 50 lbs., twisting/turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting
