Description and Requirements
The Role:
As an Internal Underwriting Auditor, you will lead and participate in the development, execution, and maintenance of internal underwriting audit processes across IGP Specialty programs. Your work will focus on evaluating risk selection, form and pricing application, risk eligibility, rating plan compliance, and coverage utilization to ensure our programs meet the highest standards.
What You'll Do:
- Lead the development of Underwriting and Compliance Audit Protocols, including planning, fieldwork, testing, exception identification, and reporting, ensuring timely completion of audits.
- Collaborate with program, operations, and underwriting leadership to establish systems for flagging, tracking, and documenting risks exceeding program authority, and conduct monthly reviews using internal tracking tools.
- Conduct internal underwriting audits for in-scope programs and wholesale cover holder agreements on a 12-month cycle or as dictated by program-specific cycles.
- Create and maintain processes to evaluate in-scope programs on a recurring basis and facilitate carrier audit requests as needed.
- Develop, communicate, and uphold professional audit standards and client expectations.
- Ensure audit data is relevant, reliable, and supports conclusions.
- Maintain consistency across audit objectives, work programs, testing, evidence, and conclusions.
- Collaborate with program leaders and managers to develop solutions to mitigate identified risks.
- Draft and present internal audit reports to clients, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Conduct follow-up audits and testing for remediation items.
- Perform “Did Well/Do Better” reviews to highlight strengths and areas for improvement.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal clients.
- Lead meetings with internal clients regarding audit processes and findings.
- Consult with clients on the implementation of policies, procedures, and control standards.
- Partner with program leaders and managers to identify emerging trends and determine training opportunities to support continuous improvement.
- Stay current on industry trends and company processes.
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years of internal auditing experience, preferably in multi-line.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Professional certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CPCU preferred.
- Experience with agency management systems and document retention software required.
- Experience with Lloyds Cover holder agreements and bordereau reporting.
- Expert knowledge of auditing standards and familiarity with audit software techniques preferred.
- Experience in systems like C1, Aim, and ImageRight is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage all organizational levels and be an ambassador for the department.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive work ethic.
- Demonstrated ability to lead client meetings, negotiate, and resolve issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Visio, and Word.
- Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
