General Descriptions:
Assess large risks of a complex nature, develop and negotiate premium. Manage relationships with brokers and carriers in order to provide the appropriate insurance product to clients and generate profit in accordance with company goals.
Responsibilities:
· Underwrites and analyzes new and renewal accounts for the most complex assignments.
· Serves as a subject matter expertise to review insurance policy.
· Assess the risk to determine the appropriate price, coverage and terms and conditions, as well as taking policy to completion with recommending and binding coverage, invoicing and policy issuance.
· Identifies the need, orders, and evaluates additional risk assessment information.
· Underwrites within defined broad limits and authority.
· Establishes underwriting policy and procedures as well as providing reports to management.
· Develops and maintains a working relationship with agencies and communicates effectively through broker negotiations to ensure new business flow and profitable production.
· Communicates with agents to obtain supplemental underwriting information.
· Analyze and rate endorsement requests.
· May act as a team lead and/or have supervisory responsibilities.
· Recommends authority levels for underwriting staff and amendments/enhancements to applicable program, including coverage, policy forms, premium rate plans and underwriting guidelines, loss control guidelines, and distribution.
· Collaborates with program leader, actuarial, operations, loss control, and claims functional staff in the execution of agreed program strategy and identification of program opportunities.
· Engages in professional development; takes advantage of relevant industry and organizational education and training.
· May be responsible for training and coaching other underwriting team members
· Will require travel for client relationship building, key client and carrier facing meetings and educational development.
· Perform other job duties as assigned and participate in special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· High school diploma or equivalent required.
· 7+ years underwriting experience.
· Broad and deep knowledge of insurance industry market and appetite.
· Good negotiating, written and verbal communication skills.
· Proficient in MS Office suite of products.
· Proficiency in utilizing company systems.
· Must have strong organizational and analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
· Ability to establish product risk factors including proper risk exposure and compliance with state departments of insurance
· Ability to effectively identify insurance product needs in the marketplace
· Ability to travel 20% of the time
