General Description: Responsible for the management of all operations for book of brokers in assigned division. Provide the highest standards in General Agency services and relationships. Assist in the attainment of corporate goals and objectives. 

Responsibilities:
  • Accountable for full-cycle management and development of Broker Consultants and Benefit Administrators. Includes monitoring work product, performance management, training, and mentoring.
  • Promote Emerson Rogers (ER) culture in alignment with the philosophies and mission statement.
  • Collaborate with OpCo President/Market Leader and other members of the management team. Ensure department’s highest level of service and efficiency.
  • Work with Human Resources to define the organizational structure. Includes coordinating recruiting and staff development.  
  • Serve as a point of escalation for team members. 
  • Make recommendations for process improvement to achieve operational goals and capacity management. 
  • Participate, as needed, in interviewing, hiring, training, and development of operations staff.
  • Support the carrier/vendors goals and objectives.
  • Resolve day-to-day service issues for brokers and vendors. 
  • Educate, advise, and aid brokers on all compliance topics. Includes ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, 5500s, and Health Care Reform.  
  • Process new business applications. Ensure cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.
  • Process all policy changes, endorsements, and other requests of clients and brokers.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities for ancillary and worksite.
  • Participate with Account Executive on sales opportunities as needed.
  • Stay current with industry and new product information, legislation, technology, and trends. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • 5+ years of experience working in a group health insurance setting. Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. 
  • Must hold Life, Accident & Health license. 
  • Expert knowledge of products, services, competitive offerings, market needs, and industry trends.
  • In-depth knowledge of agency management system functionality, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales, and service processes.
  • Detailed understanding of all types of health/ancillary benefit plan designs, financial models, enrollment, and carrier processes.
  • Effective leadership skills with ability to manage others effectively. 
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to use and interpret benefit related facts and figures. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.  
  • Strong organizational skills. Ability to set priorities and manage deadlines. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. Includes ability to maintain relationships with clients, carriers, vendors, and other business contacts.  
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

Physical Demands:
Work is performed in a climate-controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins. Employees operate office equipment including telephone - headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner, and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include walking, sitting, standing, bending, and typing.

Analysis of Physical Demands:
  • Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.
  • Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand, and bend. 
  • Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.
  • Rarely (< than 1 hour per week) work performed requires lifting/carrying items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
