General Description:

 The Manager Broker Services provides the highest standards in General Agency services and relationships; assists in the attainment of corporate goals and objectives; and ensures that the personal career ambitions and needs of all Broker Consultants and Benefit Administrators  are understood and supported to the greatest degree possible. Providing guidance and serving as a point of escalation, being able to make recommendations regarding process improvement, achieving operational goals and capacity management.  The Manager Broker Services will also be responsible for the management of an assigned book of brokers, responsible for the day-to –day customer services, as well as annual broker review.

Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for understanding, accepting and promoting Emerson Reid culture, remaining consistent with the organization’s philosophies and mission statement.

·         Support Operating Company President/Market Leader and other members of the Management Team to increase and develop the team’s productivity, effectiveness and performance through established performance objectives, training, education, coaching and mentoring.

·         Participate in defining the organizational structure, coordinating recruiting and staff development with HR.

·         Manage and motivate a high performing team – results driven, accountable and collaborative.

·         Monitor quantity, quality and sufficiency of team members’ work; responsible for team production/output levels.

·         Participate, as needed, in interviewing, hiring, training, and development of operations staff.

·         Responsible for effectively supporting the carrier/vendors goals and objectives.

·         Collaborate with OpCo President/Market Leader and other members of the Management Team to ensure that Roles and Responsibilities are being followed and all staff work together to ensure the highest level of service and efficiency.

·         Responsible for the management of employees through performance reviews, performance improvement plans, organizing coverage for staffing shortages, department issues, recording time and attendance and approval of expense reports.

·         Resolve day-to-day service issues for brokers and vendors.

·         Educate, advise and aid brokers on all Compliance topics including, but not limited to, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, 5500s and Health Care Reform. 

·         Process new business applications, and insure that cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.

·         Process all policy changes, endorsements and other requests of clients and brokers.

·         Identify cross-selling opportunities for ancillary and worksite.

·         Special projects as assigned, including participation with Account Executive on sales opportunity.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         5 + years experience working in a group health insurance setting; prior supervisory experience preferred.

·         Expert knowledge of General Agency products, services, competitive offerings, market needs and industry trends.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of agency management system functionality, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales and service processes.

·         Demonstrates detailed understanding of all types of health/ancillary benefit plan designs, financial models, enrollment and carrier processes.

·         Experienced in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

·         Strong analytical skills; capable of using and interpreting benefit related facts and figures.

·         Must possess Life, Accident and Health license.

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with minimal instruction and a high degree of accuracy.
 

·         Ability to handle difficult behavior or conflict and bring to a timely resolution.

  • Sets priorities and manages work flow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Keep informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverage’s and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Interact with others effectively by utilizing good communication skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the company.

Physical Demands:

 Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine.  Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and fingering.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

·         Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as fingering, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

·         Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

·         Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

·         Rarely  (< than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs,  twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head , kneeling or squatting.
