General Description: 

The manager of the account management team is responsible for the retention of clients in their department by the assignment of accounts, training team members, setting goals and reviewing progress, and ensuring commission data is accurate.  Much of the time will be spent supporting the client relationship manager is encouraged to visit the top clients on a regular schedule as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


·        Mentors account manager staff for product and process.

·        Works with new hires’ on boarding processes.

·        Huddles with internal Account Management staff on a weekly basis to coach and problem solve.

·        Develops and maintains strong relationships with vendors, AE’s and brokers as needed through frequent contact and meetings.

·        Resolves day-to-day service issues with internal account managers.

·        Provides follow-up communication and approvals on plan changes and open enrollment issues.

·        Works with clients and Account Executives, in quoting renewal alternatives and new business.

·        Works with Account Executives and internal account manager to negotiate rates, secure new business and maintain existing business.

·        Processes new business applications, via ERC to ensure that cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.

·        Processes all policy changes, endorsements and other requests of clients and brokers.

·        Identifies cross-selling opportunities for other lines of coverage.

·        Enters data into Commission Data Base (NCS), for book of business.

·        Updates client database on an ongoing basis, creates and maintains case files that include all critical client information based on implemented workflows.

·        Communicates regularly with management and other staff members regarding all aspects of administration to ensure service excellence.

·        Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal account managers, new hires, brokers, vendors and internal staff.

·        Strives to stay up to date with insurance regulations, carrier plan options, underwriting rules and other value- added programs offered by MBA and ERC.

·        Special projects as required.

·        Three + years of experience working in a group health insurance setting is preferred. 

·        Required is a demonstrated familiarity with:

·        Group Health products, services, competitive offerings, market needs and industry trends and claim procedures is required.

·        Detailed understanding of all types of health and ancillary benefit plan designs and claim procedures.

·        Basic understanding of alternate funding arrangements including full and partially insured, minimum premium, self-insured, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·        Ability to creatively and proactively problem-solve.

·        Ability to stay organized and focused in a busy environment.

·        Effective communication skills when dealing with co-workers, brokers and carriers.

·        Professional and dependable.

·        Demonstrates cooperation and collaboration in a team setting.

·        Experienced in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

·        Strong analytical skills; capable of using and interpreting benefit related facts and figures.

·        Accident & Health license is required or ability to obtain within three months from date of hire.

Work is performed in a climate- controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, Computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine.  Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and fingering.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

·        Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as fingering, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

·        Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

·        Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

·        Rarely  < than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs,  twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head , kneeling or squatting.
