General Description:

The Lawyers’ Professional Liability (LPL) Assistant Sales Manager/Producer is responsible for managing an outside sales team including supervising all their daily activities, coaching/mentoring to ensure they meet or exceed revenue targets goals by actively soliciting and selling various bar association sponsored and non-sponsored professional liability insurance products.   In addition, the Assistant Sales Manager/Producer will have their own outside sales production responsibilities to meet and exceed revenue targets as identified by the LPL Sales Manager.




        Achieve annual new business sales goals in our target market of companies/ firms.

        Demonstrate technical knowledge necessary to communicate our solutions effectively to a noninsurance buyer.

        Required to meet with external centers of influence to prospect and engage. Serve as a value-added service that is provided to the clients of the center of influence.

        Facilitate networking sessions with law firms and other respective associations to build COIs. Identify prospects and address industry risks, concerns and unique insurance market needs/ requirements. Provide expertise and advice of tailored insurance solutions to meeting customer/ prospect needs.

        Maintain prospect pipeline of known policy expiration dates (X-dates). Develop new prospects through face to face to meetings and phone prospecting.

        Plan for and participate in meetings focused on earning first appointments, preparing for first appointments, and closing business.

        Maintain a high degree of accuracy in agency management systems.

        Champion client cross-selling initiatives and develop customer accounts.

        Complete and submit sales and production reports to management as requested.

        Attend weekly sales meetings, engagement day and customer/association events as required.

        Develop and deploy sales and marketing strategies. along with periodic communications to optimize USI’s position in the marketplace.

        Positively and proactively represent USI in meetings, seminars, trade shows and networking events.

        Ability to identify and overcome sales obstacles on a prospect-specific basis.

        Become a subject matter expert in identified business solutions.

        Demonstrate proficiency in the discovery process (sales due diligence) and promoting USI’s competitive differentiation.

        Create positive synergies and build strong working relationships and win confidence of the local Select, PRS, Commercial Lines and Employee Benefits production staff.

        Ability to travel more than 50% of the time to meet with identified COIs, networks, associations, prospects and clients.


·        Directly manage 3+ employees. 

  • ·        Identifies appropriate workflows and staffing to ensure appropriate productivity of unit;
  • ·        Participates in recruiting and interviewing to ensure appropriate staffing;
  • ·        Monitors performance levels of staff including conducting annual performance reviews, gauging performance and progress, in conjunction with Sales Manager, establishes goals and disciplinary actions when needed and in accordance with company policy.
  • ·        Meets with staff regularly to discuss departmental issues in order to identify trends/concerns both positive and negative, as well as to clarify current policies and procedures.
  • ·        Addresses complaints and resolves issues.
  • ·        Assists in development, specification of and implementation of a training program in order to provide training as needed on an ongoing basis. The goal is to ensure usage of appropriate procedures to ensure optimum performance and efficient operations.
  • ·        Communicates and ensures adherence to company policies and applicable laws.
  • ·        Monitors, manages and approves time and attendance to ensure appropriate staffing as well as ensuring proper reporting and compliance with USI Time and Attendance policy.

·        Support LPL Sales department budget to ensure costs are within budget guidelines.

·        Attend and participate in meetings and workshops as deemed necessary.

·        Maintain open lines of communication with internal operational departments and interact on issues relating to day-to-day operations of the organization.

·        Assist in implementing local marketing and business plans to support sales strategies with local inside sales team.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Four-year College Degree preferred.  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
  • The ideal candidate must have at least 2 years of successfully demonstrated sales experience in a fast-paced inside sales call-center environment.  Managing in a call-center environment (including call monitoring/KPI measuring) is preferred.  Proven ability to perform in a sales-focused, results-oriented environment working with a strong team is required.  Experience selling in or managing a team of inside B to B sales is strongly preferred.
  • In addition, candidate must have at least 2 years of Professional Liability insurance industry experience. Experience working with CRM platforms is required (Microsoft is preferred).

·        P & C license is required.

·        Must have or develop strong knowledge of USI Affinity’s product line and related insurance concepts.

·        Must have strong customer service and sales orientation.

·        Must be able to consistently meet or exceeds sales/revenue targets as established by the company.

·        Must be able to develop and maintain strong business relationships as well as the ability to deal effectively with difficult or sensitive situations.

·        Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

·        Must have excellent management, planning, leadership and organizational skills.

·        Must have excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. 

·        Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

·        Must be proficient in the MS Office suite of products including Word, Excel.  Must be able to learn and work with any corporate Proprietary software tools including sales tracking systems.

·        Must be willing and able to manage all prospecting activity through company sales tracking system.
