General Description: Provides Human Resources support and direction for the office and serves as a business partner to the organization. This position involves the supervision of others.

Responsibilities (include but not exclusive to the following):

  • Partner with management and department managers to address employee relations issues including but not limited to performance and behavioral problems, development plans, position reductions, restructuring, and investigations (partner with CHRO, USI Benefits Service Center, Corporate HR, and USI Payroll as needed).
  • Manage office administration functions and personnel including but not limited to reception, administration, and mailroom.
  • Provide training, development, performance feedback and coaching to supervised staff.
  • Manage, oversee and support all general office operations, including office moves, as necessary.
  • Provide proactive employee relations guidance to resolve people issues and ensure the organization's compliance. Actively manage, coach and act on under performers.
  • Administer performance management process which includes performance review preparation and merit increase determination; educate employees and managers on the process; provide corporate with requested information.
  • Post open positions internally. Coordinate all recruiting needs with recruiter on an as-needed basis from sourcing, to screening, interviewing, and hire or rejection.
  • Coordinate the use of temporary employees including acquisition, screening, on-boarding, tracking and invoice payment.
  • Participate and partner with HR colleagues in rolling out employee wellness plans throughout the organization or USI initiatives.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings, Ops Review meetings, Town Hall meetings, etc.
  • Respond to requests from internal and external legal counsel for information in support of claims.
  • Process all market adjustments and SIP bonus payments after appropriate approvals are obtained in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct new employee orientations and the bi-weekly benefits orientation provided by USI Corporate in a timely manner.
  • Conduct Exit Interviews and submit information to CHRO.
  • Administer workers' compensation claims program in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Submit appropriate information for unemployment insurance purposes to Talx UCExpress and the EDD.
  • Work with the BSC (Benefits Service Center) in the administration of the various leaves (FMLA, STD, LTD, WC etc.).
  • Submit online investigation requests for candidates and reviews results of background checks.
  • Coordinate 90 Day On-Boarding Process setup and follow-up.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • BA in HR/Business Administration or related field preferred (PHR certification is helpful)
  • 8-10 years experience or any combination of education and experience that provides the requisite knowledge to successfully perform the job.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Must be proficient in the MS Office suite of products including Word, Excel.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with a superior work ethic and a defined sense of urgency is a must
  • An understanding and appreciation of broader Human Resources practices and success in navigating a highly matrixed organization is necessary
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong project management skills, manages a project to completion, achieving the desired results in a cost efficient manner.
  • Displays and embodies team orientation, ability to develop, maintain and utilize relationships at all levels. Can work effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve common goals.
  • Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using sound judgment that is consistent with business standards, practices, policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information and situations with discretion.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in times of stress.
  • Solid understanding of Human Resource procedures, principles and concepts including employee relations, training and development, performance management, recruiting and compensation and benefits.
  • Ability to work independently, yet communicate effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state labor laws.
