General Description: The Human Resources Generalist, with limited supervision, manages the day-to-day Human Resources operations for a specified business unit.  This position manages the administration of HR policies, procedures and programs and carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: employee relations, performance management, compensation, training, employment, recruitment, payroll administration, and benefits.

Responsibilities (include but not exclusive to the following):

·         Recruit for open positions and ensure compliance with equal opportunity policy, affirmative action and federal and state regulations.

·         Manage all phases of the new hire process.

·         Identify and escalate potential problems such as harassment or violations of USI policies.

·         Under the guidance of the RCHRO, counsel managers and facilitate formal disciplinary actions including terminations.

·         Manage all aspects of payroll changes and submissions to the payroll Shared Service group.

·         Act as liaison between employees and the Payroll Shared Services Group and the Benefits Service Center.

·         Partner with Corporate HR to handle FMLA, STD, LTD and workers compensation.

·         Comply with policies and procedures with regard to terminations including preparing necessary departing paperwork for employee, conducing exit interviews, gathering company property, informing unemployment divisions.

·         Manage time and attendance system to include: assisting with training, answering questions, calculating annual PTO accrual rates and managing the annual PTO carry over process.

·         Facilitate the coordination of training programs.

·         Provide guidance and training on the performance management system and ensure appropriate rating distributions are achieved and that deadlines are communicated and met;

·         Maintain personnel and payroll files ensuring security and confidentiality.

·         Partner with management and department managers to address employee relations issues including but not limited to performance and behavioral problems, development plans, position eliminations, restructuring, and investigations (partner with CHRO, CA, USI Benefits Service Center, Corporate HR, and USI Payroll as needed).

·         Administer performance management process which includes performance review preparation and merit increase determination; educate employees and managers on the process; provide corporate with requested information.

·         Participate and partner with HR colleagues in rolling out employee wellness plans throughout the organization or USI initiatives.

·         Coordinate employee outings and festivities.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         5+ years as Human Resources Generalist.

·         BA in Business Administration or related field preferred.

·         Superior interpersonal, verbal/written communication and presentation skills.

·         Must have the ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, by using sound judgment that is consistent with business standards, practices, policies, procedures and regulations.

·         Basic core competencies in Employee Relations and Recruitment.

·         Must be successful working independently with limited supervision.

·         Must demonstrate ability to effectively collaborate with top level regional management and corporate.

·         Oversee and direct coordination of HR-related functions with designated HR Liaisons in assigned offices.

·         Strong computer skills including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and HRIS system experience.

Physical Demands

 Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, Computer,   computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine.  Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and fingering.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

         Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as fingering, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

         Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

         Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive/travel to other offices have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

         Rarely  (< than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs,  twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head , kneeling or squatting.
