General Description: 

The ER Ancillary Small Group Specialist manages a specific book of business as assigned by the ER Ancillary Market Leader. This individual is responsible for coordination of day-to-day new business and renewal quoting and installing under 100 lives. The Small Group Specialist will respond to broker specific questions, negotiate with carriers, and make recommendations to broker.  They will act as a liaison between the insurance carrier and the broker.  Much of the person’s time will be spent supporting the broker-ERC relationship for small group business (under 100 lives).

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for forwarding completed RFP to large group marketing team, negotiate with carrier(s), present and make recommendation to brokers for all 10-24 life groups for both New Business and Renewals.
  • Escalates issues with carriers for self and/or on behalf of Level 1 and 2 Broker Consultants
  • Responsible for forwarding completed RFP to large group marketing team, negotiate with carrier(s), present and make recommendation to brokers for all 25-99 life groups.
  • Conduct all case instillations for 2-24 life groups.
  • Presenting to broker 2-9 quotes or spreadsheeting as necessary and making recommendations.
  • Be the second line of contact for all in house quoting request for all carrier contacts for 2-9 life group.
  • Be the second line of contact for all 25-99 case installations and renewals.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and vendors through frequent contact and meetings.
  • Work with Account Executives, Broker Consultants and Brokers in quoting renewal alternatives and new business.
  • Work with Account Executives and vendors to negotiate rates, secure new business and maintain existing business.
  • Process new business applications, and insure that cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.
  • Process all endorsements and other requests of clients and brokers.
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities for other lines of coverage
  • Update client database on an ongoing basis and create and maintain case files that include all critical client information based on implemented workflows.
  • Communicate regularly with management and other staff members regarding all aspects of administration to ensure service excellence.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with brokers, vendors and internal staff.
  • Strive to stay up-to-date with insurance regulations, carrier plan options, underwriting rules and other value added programs offered by ERC to the Brokers.
  • Consults like Account Executive with emphasis on education and strategy
  • Escalates issues with carriers.
  • Mentors internal staff for product and process
  • Works with Brokers determined by value of business and level of difficulty
  • Process new business applications, and ensure that cases are installed quickly and accurately by the vendor.
  • Submit the appropriate notification to the commission department.
  • Update client database on an ongoing basis and create and maintain case files that include all critical client information based on implemented workflows.
  • Special projects as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to creatively and proactively problem-solve.
  • Ability to stay organized and focused in a busy environment.
  • Effective communication skills when dealing with co-workers, brokers and carriers.
  • Professional and dependable.
  • Demonstrates cooperation and collaboration in a team setting.
  • Three + years of experience working in a group health insurance setting preferable.
  • Familiarity with products, services, competitive offerings, market needs and industry trends and claim procedures.
  • Basic understanding of alternate funding arrangements including full and partially insured, minimum premium, self-insured, etc.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong analytical skills; capable of using and interpreting benefit related facts and figures. 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Accident & Health license is required or ability to obtain within three months from date of hire.

Physical Demands:

 Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, Computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine.  Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and typing.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

·         Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

·         Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

·         Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

·         Rarely  (< than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
