The National Team Executive and Professional Risk Solutions (EPS) Claims Counsel is responsible for carrier/client collaboration and advocacy of complex and large account EPS claims including determining plans of action and/or claims management expectations. Works directly with multiple insurance company representatives and clients to manage claims cost and maximize insurance coverage. The position serves as an internal resource to sales executives and regional account service teams and provides thought leadership.


  • Complex Claims: (D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability, E&O, Cyber, FI Bond, Commercial Crime)
  •  Provide assistance to internal and external clients and on the claim process. 
  • Work effectively with carriers to understand broker/client coverage positions and challenge incorrect policy interpretations. 
  • Review reservation of rights letter for accuracy and resolve with carrier prior to client involvement. 
  • Communicate with client’s counsel to resolve any issues discovered.
  • Provide advice and direction to clients as needed.  Track certain industry related claims activity and present to clients. 
  • Provide proactive consulting to clients and suggest “best practices” ideas in terms of board risk management and corporate governance procedures. 
  • Work with clients one on one to formalize procedures as needed. 
  • Design and participate in seminars and other speaking engagements to further the image/practices of USI. 
  • Design and prepare any materials needed for positioning, selling and execution of this practice area. 
  • Resource activities:
  • Article/”white paper” development:  Develop original content on areas of interest and market development on a multiple times per years. 
  • Summarize and distribute articles of interest to our clients and prospects.  File and present these informational topics as board education and for credit within ISS guidelines.
  • Design and develop “best practices” checklist for boards.
  •  Present checklist and ideas to clients and prospects. 
  • Design and secure examples of policies and procedures that would be viewed as “best practices” and work with outside counsel to integrate for clients.
  • Design and execute a “Law firm Outreach Program” whereby we can illustrate our services to the law firms and become a strategic partner/endorsed resource for their clients and prospects.
  • Create a formal process of reviewing policy language and endorsement packs by carriers, Work with account service team to negotiate improvements, build relationships with underwriters.
  • Other projects/tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Practicing attorney for at least 7 years.
  • Specializing in management liability products and exposures.
  • Demonstrates a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Polished and presentable.
  • Self starter/self motivated with the ability to work independently as well as member of a team.
  • Hands-on personality.
  • Comfortable in supporting account service team and working directly with clients and prospects.
  • Creative thinker.
