General Description: 

The Student Health Operations Manager is responsible for the management and plan administration for student health plans of multiple Universities and Colleges. This individual is responsible for ensuring client deliverables are met with accuracy and efficiency.  The Operations Manager will play a key role in the department planning with senior management.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the day to day operations and client services for student health plans of multiple Universities and Colleges.

  • Provide training, performance evaluation, management and coaching of staff. Monitors workflow of employees and adjust / redistributes as needed.

  • Responsible for planning / budgeting and business unit performance.

  • Implements process to maximize efficiency of operations and technology services.

  • Participates in review, recommendation and implementations of operational systems and processes.

  • Insures representation of the administration of student eligibility and waiver operations   during implementation of new clients to the eligibility and waiver administration system(s).  Insures participation from team during meeting(s) with clients to determine needs for import/export of data to avoid manual entry.  Assists with process to obtain needed data from clients and students in a compatible format.  Maintain open communication with client to ensure timely and effective completion of the implementation process and smooth transition to the Ongoing Administration and Operations Team. 

  • Manage the Ongoing Administration and Operations Team, participate in the daily servicing of existing clients as required to maintain good client relationships.

  • Participates (personally or through a designated team member) in special projects (e.g., train employees on administration system and functions, implementation of new procedures/products).

  • Performs such other duties as may be requested.

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • AA or BA in business/insurance or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5year’s experience with administration of employee benefits administration or student insurance plan administration  with a Third Party Administrator, Carrier or Broker or University.

  • 3+ years experience in a supervisory capacity.

  • Experienced in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong analytical skills; capable of using and interpreting benefit related facts and figures.

  • Effective leadership, communication, and organizational skills and the ability to direct and monitor the activities of others.

  • Ability to plan and instruct staff members on information appropriate to their job responsibilities.

  • Ability to handle difficult behavior or conflict and bring to a timely resolution.

  • Ability to creatively and proactively problem-solve.

  • Ability to stay organized and focused in a busy environment.

  • Personable and credible.

  • Professional and dependable.

     

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, Computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and typing.

 

Analysis of Physical Demands:

  • Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

  • Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

  • Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

  • Rarely (< than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
