General Description:  This client-facing position independently analyzes prescription drug information to create and assist with delivery of financial solutions for select clients and prospective clients with self-funded medical plans. The Pharmacy consultant will be responsible for helping USI Health and Welfare consultants lower the cost of pharmacy benefits by aligning PBM contracts with the best interests of USI clients and their employees. The USI goal is to create transparency within the PBM industry and maximize cost efficiencies. This position is a technical resource both internally within the USI organization and client facing.


  • Attend and participate in prospecting activities with production consultants.
  • Articulate the USI pharmacy value proposition and solutions within the sales process, from discovery meetings, capabilities presentations and conceptual/finalist meetings.
  • Act as a resource for Sales Executives to develop strategic plans and solutions for prospects and clients.
  • Work closely with Service Team Members to ensure strategic objectives of prospects/client are clearly articulated and that all prospect deliverables deliver proactive solutions in line with strategic objectives.
  • Lead client PBM RFP process including marketing services, assistance with articulating and educating both team members and clients about prescription drug benefits.
  • Conduct contract audits and make observations and recommendations
  • Be subject matter expert on all USI Omni Solutions regarding pharmacy
  • Conduct formulary and specialty drug review for select clients and make observations and recommendations
  • Assist with negotiations with Carriers and PBM's to negotiate preferred deals.
  • Conduct Internal Training sessions to better educate all USI employees on all components of
  • Pharmacy.
  • Monitor new drug approvals and keep the USI team educated
  • Oversee patient assistance programs for specialty medications and recommend partners and approaches
  • Develop and maintain excellent carrier relationships.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.


  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal instruction and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Sets priorities and manages work flow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate deliverables.
  • Ability to manage and negotiate multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Maintain a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors and other business contacts.  Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Keep informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverage and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.
  • Interact with others effectively by utilizing good communication skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the company.
  • 5+ years’ experience as a clinical or specialized pharmacist. Experience working with pharmacy benefit managers is preferred
  • Must hold state Life & Disability insurance license or willing to obtain one within an agreed upon timeframe.
  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Excel, Word and other MS Office products along with Adobe products.
  • Advanced problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to carry out complex tasks with many concrete and abstract variables.
