General Description:  The Sr. Editor and National Communications Specialist will be responsible for overseeing and executing a national content calendar to support the sales process and promote the USI brand. As a key member of the marketing team, the Sr. Editor and National Communications Specialist is charged with the extraction of issues/solutions/topics from USI subject matter experts including Employee Benefits (EB) Communications Specialists and Property and Casualty (PC) Specialists and will convert these into well written and branded material to be used for prospecting, client and associate education and branding. Working closely with the National EB Leader, the National PC Leader and Chief Sales Officer is critical to the success of this position.


·        Ownership of the USI editorial calendar – coordinates with each LOB contact to execute the content calendar

  • Research, extract and prepare from USI experts authoritative "white papers”, Brainsharks and Webinars on topics of interest to USI targeted prospects, current clients and other audiences including targeted associations and publications
  • Prepare communications specifically for sales consultant follow-up to drive prospects further along the USI sales cycle and better position existing clients for referrals

·        Work along with the Sr. Digital Enablement leader and the “writers” for each line of business LOB (PC, EB, Retirement and Personal Risk) to provide final editing and strategic direction (consistent with USI Branding/messaging standards)

  • Examples of potential issues and relevant topics are:

·        How USI is using “big data” to help clients make better decisions.

·        The USI proprietary approach and top decisions that executives can make that will provide clients with greater protection, control, and savings

·        How the globalization of business is driving employee compensation and benefit structures for U.S. workers

·        The impact of the Affordable Care Act on employee benefit products

·        The impact, long term costs and key elements of a successful company wellness initiative

·        How digitization and IT investments are producing better claims oversight, service and underwriting efficiencies

·        Effective tactics for executives to quantify the dollar value of disaster risk specific to a company’s asset profile

·        Other regulatory and economic topics that impact decision-making for property and casualty products and employee benefit plans

  • Develop content for USI webinars, client toolkits, email campaigns or other marketing initiatives
  • Assist in the completion and ongoing updating of the USI Presentation materials, USI Omni supporting "one pagers" and case studies
  • Future involvement in Website update and expansion

·        Leverages data and analytics provided from Marketo to optimize content

·        Works with VP Branding and Marketing to maximize brand amplification with respect to USI.COM, social profiles, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Work in a deadline driven, fast paced environment
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise copy for a variety of audiences
  • BA Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred
  • 7+ years of professional communications experience; insurance industry experience a plus
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Team-oriented; collaborates well with colleagues and clients
  • Highly developed listening, organization and time management skills with demonstrated productive activity levels
  • Exceptional written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Goal orientated, self-motivated individual with proven success dealing with senior level management
  • Must be skilled at working with a diverse, team of contributors that report to local offices but share responsibility in national initiatives
  • Able to manage multiple and shifting priorities, effective in dealing with ambiguity in a highly "matrixed" organization
