General Description:  The Editor and National Communications Specialist will be responsible for meeting a national content calendar, leveraging subject matter experts and a staff from employee benefits Communications Specialists and Property and Casualty Specialists. The Editor and National Communications Specialist is charged with the extraction of issues/solutions/topics from USI subject matter experts and will convert these to well written and branded articles (white papers), Brainsharks and webinars used to be used for prospecting, client education and branding. Working closely with the National EB Leader, the National PC Leader and Chief Sales Officer is critical to the success of this position.


  • Research, extract and prepare from USI experts authoritative "white papers”, Brainsharks and Webinars on topics of interest to USI targeted prospects, current clients and other audiences directly tied to targeted associations and publications.
  • Prepare communications specifically for consultant follow up to drive prospects further along the USI sales cycle and better position existing clients for referrals.
  • Examples of potential issues and relevant topics are:

·         The USI proprietary approach and top decisions that executives can make that will provide company’s assets greater protection, control, and savings

·         How the globalization of business is driving employee compensation and benefit structures for U.S. workers

·         The impact of the Affordable Care Act on mid-size employee benefit products

·         Learn the varying degrees of impact, long term costs and key elements to be implemented to ensure your company’s a wellness success

·         How digitization and IT investments are producing better claims oversight, service and underwriting efficiencies

·         Effective tactics for executives to quantify the dollar value in the case of disaster risk specific to company’s asset profile

·         Other regulatory and economic topics that impact decision-making for property and casualty ("P&C") products and employee benefit ("EB") plans

  • Develop content for USI webinars, client toolkits or other marketing initiatives
  • Assist in the completion and ongoing updating of the USI Presentation materials, USI Omni supporting "one pagers" and case studies
  • Future involvement in Website update and expansion

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Superior writing and editing skills
  • Ability to translate complex technical information into clear, concise copy for a variety of audiences
  • BA Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of professional communications experience; insurance industry experience a plus
  • Strategic thinker with strong business acumen and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated with excellent time management skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong interpersonal and interviewing skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word; Adobe Acrobat skills a plus
  • Team-oriented; collaborates well with colleagues and clients
  • Highly developed listening, organization and time management skills with demonstrated productive activity levels
  • Exceptional written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Goal orientated, self-motivated individual with proven success dealing with senior level management
  • Must be skilled at working with a diverse, team of contributors that report to local offices but share responsibility in national initiatives
  • Able to manage multiple and shifting priorities, effective in dealing with ambiguity in a highly "matrixed" organization
