General Description: 

Responsible for coordinating marketing of new and renewal accounts to various insurance companies. Responsible for providing support to Commercial Lines team members with marketing analytics, underwriting, preparation of quotes and handling internal questions and requests.  Required to perform essential functions and meet service standards and Best Practices developed by USI. 



  • Coordinate with the Commercial Lines department by reviewing necessary applications and underwriting information.  Requesting and obtaining additional information as requested by the markets, tracking and obtaining quotations, analyzing quotes for proper coverages and preparing Marketing Summary for each account in a timely manner, meeting deadlines.    
  • Create and complete reports, i.e., Marketing Submission Log and Marketing Summaries as directed by Manager in a timely manner.
  • Provide ongoing customer support to Commercial Lines team,  i.e., answer questions related to carriers and appetite.  Provide contact information, necessary forms, etc.  Inform and educate Commercial Lines team about carrier appetite and protocols, coverage, exclusions and exposures; document files accordingly.  
  • Have a working knowledge of market place, programs and niches, and appropriate supplementals.  As well as a working knowledge of carrier contacts and appropriate distribution point within carriers to direct specific lines of business.  Ability to find appropriate markets to meet a specific client’s needs, whether new business or renewal.

  • Respond in securing proper bind orders, securing correct terms and conditions and other related items accurately and on time. Provide standard market diligent search efforts when coverage placed with a surplus lines carrier.
  • Resolve issues regarding non-renewals, rating, terms and conditions and market eligibility.
  • Negotiate reductions and broaden cover terms in new business and renewals as appropriate.
  • Perform administrative duties necessary for proper and accurate documentation in agency management system and marketing files.
  • Proper utilization of carrier websites for obtaining necessary forms, supplementals, rating portals as well as other websites such as SilverPlume (Reference Connect); MVRs,  NCCI, ISO fire rates, etc as needed.
  • Active participation in meeting with carriers to build relationships and gain knowledge first hand from markets.

  • Sets priorities and manages work flow to ensure efficient, timely and accurate processing of transactions and other responsibilities.

  • Maintain a cordial and effective relationship with clients, co-workers, carriers, vendors and other business contacts.  Ability to work in a team environment.

  • Keep informed regarding industry information, new product information, legislation, coverages and technology to continuously improve knowledge and performance.

  • Interact with others effectively by utilizing good communication skills, cooperating purposefully and providing information and guidance, as needed, to achieve the business goals of the company.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3-5 years experience in Commercial Property & Casualty Insurance Agency along with comprehensive understanding of all Property & Casualty insurance coverages, underwriting and rating concepts. 

  • In depth knowledge of agency management system functionality, workflow procedures, underwriting, sales and service processes.

  • Must hold state Property & Casualty insurance license or willing to obtain one within an agreed upon timeframe.

  • Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Ability to carry out complex tasks with many concrete and abstract variables. 

  • Must be comfortable with internet based programs as well as knowledge of Microsoft office products.  Knowledge of Sagitta/WorkSmart preferred, but not required.

  • Advanced Excel and MS word required
  • High School graduate or equivalent required.  College degree preferred, but not required.


Physical Demands:


Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins.  Employees operate office equipment including; telephone - headset, Computer,   computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine.  Physical tasks of job include; walking, sitting, standing, bending and fingering.


Analysis of Physical Demands:


  • Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as fingering, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

  • Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

  • Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees to drive to client appointments, have repetitive foot movements, walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

  • Rarely  (< than 1 hour per week) work performed  requires Lifting/Carrying  items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling  items that range from 10-50lbs,  twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head , kneeling or squatting.
