General Description:  

The EPS Consultant demonstrates a high degree of technical expertise and leadership in managing and retaining assigned clients’ retirement plan business and handling client relation issues.  Consultant possesses expertise in providing recordkeeping and/or compliance services for various types of plans, including 401(k), profit sharing, money purchase, ESOP, non-qualified, etc.  Consultant assists with team projects, training, peer review and new business conversions.   Consultant provides exceptional customer service and works effectively with internal teams/resources (i.e. Consultants, Compliance, Legal, Producers etc.) and external vendors to maintain a successful relationship with clients and to provide overall recordkeeping and consulting services for complex retirement plans.


Responsible for all aspects of recordkeeping for client plans to ensure accurate processing in accordance with department service standards/deadlines and plan documents, including:

• reconciling asset balances (trust and participant accounts) and resolve discrepancies.

• performing plan calculations when necessary, including eligibility, contributions, etc.

• processing transactions, including distribution and loan requests, contributions, investment transfers and earnings, forfeitures, etc. 

• ensuring compliance with plan document & IRS/DOL regulations as well as plan administrative practices.

• participating in peer review process to ensure accuracy.

• maintaining accurate and timely recording of work logs.

Correspond with clients, team members, Producers & Account Managers to help manage client relationships and respond to issues, including preparation for and participation in team meetings, researching questions and plan document provisions, consulting on more complex plan issues, assisting with billing questions, confirming transactions, etc. 

Primary day-to-day client contact for inquiries on assigned plans.  Respond to all client or participant calls/emails within four business hours.  

Provide training for newer employees on department procedures, systems, etc. as well as IRS/DOL regulations, which includes taking a lead role in departmental training sessions.  Utilize expertise with less experienced staff to develop their compliance and consulting skills, resolve complex reconciling issues, research complicated plan issues and help correct errors.

Prepare IRS Form 5500/SAR, audit packages, MRDs, required compliance tests, Form 1099R, etc. for assigned plans, including:

• gather and reconcile required data.

• coordinate with Compliance Team at USICG to ensure consistency in procedures, client questionnaires, etc.

• manage deadlines and complete assigned portions of checklists.

• communicate with clients/auditors as necessary to respond to questions or requests for information.

• review results, develop corrective actions, present results and reports to clients.

Process plan-level fees per service agreement (per participant fees, distribution/loan fees, etc.); track and report completed deliverables for client invoicing; identify projects requiring additional billing and report them monthly in team billing worksheet; ensure all required plan sponsor and participant fee disclosures are prepared and delivered timely

Participate in the conversion of new business and coordinate transition of assets and participant records; participate in transition meetings/calls; ensure proper setup of payroll data feeds and system specs; ensure all documentation is completed in a timely manner for account/plan setup and enrollment meetings; complete appropriate portions of checklists; assist other team members with conversions

Complete special projects as applicable, such as plan corrections, match and\or profit sharing calculations and VCP filings.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Bachelor’s or Associates Degree in Mathematics, Business, Finance or Accounting preferred

• Strong computer skills-solid knowledge of Windows environment, including Word & Excel

• Excellent mathematical aptitude.  Detailed and organized.  Able to multi-task.

• Ability to meet all client deliverables requiring extended working hours during peak work periods 

• Excellent communication, accounting and interpersonal skills

• Five or more years related business experience preferred

• ASPPA exam completion/certification preferred
