General Description:  The Business Systems Claims Specialist will support new technology efforts with respects to USI's Property and Casualty claims systems, and work with the business to define claims data capabilities (custom or purchased) to enable the business to grow.


·         Research problems, plan solutions, recommend software and system changes, and coordinate development to meet business requirements.

·         Act as liaison between business users and the IT team.

·         Develop business cases, cost analysis and project plans for systems enhancements.

  • Advanced understanding of at least two lines of coverage relative to claims management strategies, resolution techniques & coverage forms (generally Property and Casualty).
  • Ability to use carrier / TPA claims management systems to generate reports that provide leading edge loss information (analytics) to help develop technology solutions to track and analyze risk management plans (lag time, medical only to indemnity ratios, frequency and severity trends, location loss experience, root cause of loss, dashboard reports, etc.).

·         Transform user requests into business requirements and technical specifications.

·         Interact with customers to learn and document requirements that are then used to produce business requirements documents.

·         Plan and organize workflow and meetings with clients in an independent manner.

·         Define business and systems requirements.

·         Develop test plans and test cases.

·         Manage system testing and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

·         Become a subject matter expert (SME) in insurance sales workflows and applications.

·         Work with business leaders to implement projects and applications changes.

·         Interface with business leaders as well as the Infrastructure and Applications Groups to ensure that projects and systems are delivered to end user satisfaction.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         4 year degree or equivalent.

·         5-7 years IT and/or systems experience.

·         Project management experience.

·         Familiarity with of programming and SQL a plus.

·         Experience with insurance and sales applications and workflows a plus.

·         Team orientation and hands-on approach.

  • Strong organizational skills required.
  • Strong negotiation skills required.
  • Minimum of three to five year of claims administration experience.

·         Must be able to manage multiple and rapidly changing, high visibility priorities and projects.

Physical Demands:

Work is performed in a climate controlled office environment with minimal noise and limited to no exposure to chemicals or toxins. Employees operate office equipment including telephone - headset, computer, computer monitors, keyboard, mouse, copier, scanner and mail machine. Physical tasks of job include walking, sitting, standing and bending.

Analysis of Physical Demands:

·         Constantly (over 66% of time) work performed requires employees to use repetitive hand motions such as typing, using a keyboard, and sitting at a desk.

·         Frequently (34%-66% of time) work performed requires employees to handle and grasp things, walk on normal surfaces, stand and bend.

·         Occasionally (1%-33% of time) work performed requires employees walk on uneven or slippery surfaces to and from work and occasionally reach outward to grab things and bend.

·         Rarely (< than 1 hour per week) work performed requires lifting/carrying items that range from 10-50lbs, pushing/pulling items that range from 10-50lbs, twisting/ turning including reaching over shoulder or above head, kneeling or squatting.
