The Retirement Plan Account Manager is in USI’s Defined Contribution Consulting Group, the fastest growing team within the USI Consulting Group. The right candidate for this position will bring a positive attitude, attention to detail, a solid knowledge of retirement plan operations, and a desire to learn, grow, and share your knowledge and experience with the team.

The Account Manager is responsible for managing the overall relationship with investment advisory clients, with a focus on client retention. The Account Manager interacts with HR professionals and C-suite executives of our clients and provides day to day client support for our clients’ 401(k) and other defined contribution plans. The Account Manager is a liaison between the client and the recordkeeper to help ensure smooth service and identify client needs. The Account Manager provides general plan interpretations and consulting, operational guidance, plan design consulting, and fee benchmarking to client. Typical Tasks:

  • Successfully manage and retain an assigned book of business
  • Act as a liaison between the recordkeeper and the client
  • Ensure that we meet client deliverables as outlined in our services agreement
  • Provide oversight of recordkeepers to ensure that fees and services match what was proposed to the client in the RFP process
  • Monitor plan and regulatory deadlines to ensure that recordkeepers are completing work timely
  • Conduct meetings with clients and recordkeepers to provide periodic plan and investment reviews and establish action plans
  • Work with account coordinators to implement investment fund changes
  • Assist clients on questions related to ERISA and IRS regulations for retirement plans
  • Coordinate employee education campaigns with recordkeepers
  • Deliver and explain fee benchmarking reports to clients
  • Participate in the RFP process and deliver and explain the results to clients
  • Participate in transition meetings for new clients
  • Interact with other USI teams and manage internal team project timelines for your clients
  • Consult with the client on retirement plan design, compliance, document and notice requirements
  • Identify client needs and opportunities to cross-sell other USI services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong Presentation Skills
  • Investment Advisory knowledge/experience - being able to analyze a fund's metrics, determine if there is reason to make a fund change, and communicate the analysis, recommendation and rationale to a client effectively.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills, with the ability to track multiple tasks and issues, set goals, and prioritize in a fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of retirement plan operations and regulations
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and familiarity with industry scorecard software/programs
  • 5-7 years of related business experience, demonstrating recordkeeping and compliance expertise
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Math, Finance or a related field is preferred
  • Industry Designations preferred
