Provides professional and technical casualty loss prevention services to Clients, Producers, Marketing, Account Managers, Account Executives, and fee for service vendors by applying educational and technical knowledge towards solving complex loss prevention issues.

Works independently on consulting projects with limited supervision and guidance. Applies creative and innovative management consultative services to promote new business opportunities and assure client retention.

A consultant who has acquired the necessary knowledge through the completion of higher education programs, the necessary experience through 5+ years of hands-on experience in the field of loss prevention, and the necessary verification of technical skills/applicability as demonstrated through professional certifications.


Works closely with Producers, Marketing, Account Executives and Account Managers to establish and deliver risk control consulting services to USI Insurance Service clients.

Designs, implements, monitors, and manages all phases of risk control services for clients of USI. Coordinates and manages account service activities provided to the client and fee for service vendors. Coordinates carrier loss control activities to assure client and USI’s interests are at hand.

Maintain current on regulatory agency codes, manufacturer standards, statutory requirements, and applicable regulations so as to provide professional consultative technical support to USI, its clients and prospects.


•As part of USI's sales effort; meet with prospects and clients' management team to trend historical loss data, analyze safety management philosophy, identify unsafe acts/conditions, and provide a written plan of action designed to minimize the possibility of loss frequency and severity.

•Serves as a technical resource to Producers, Account Executives and Account Managers in resolving risk control issues.

•Analyze and evaluate clients/prospects loss experience to identify problem areas and recommend corrective measures.

•Conducts client safety surveys and needs assessments to identify unsafe acts and unsafe conditions. Reviews code and regulatory agency requirement compliance. Prepares written reports to management identifying code and regulatory agency deficiencies. Suggests method to comply with codes, standards and manufacturers requirements via design engineering or the implementation of management controls.

•Provides training and educational presentations to prospects and clients, management, supervisors and/or employees on regulatory agency compliance and safety management practices.

•Assists in the development of client Safety & Property Conservation Programs. Also provides assistance in the development of client "model programs" in relation to exposure control and regulatory agency compliance.

•Designs, assists implementation, and monitors Risk Control "Action Plans" for target accounts. Assuring that individual account time/expense budget is not exceeded without the clients, Producer, and Risk Managers approval."

•Consult with client/prospect management to support internal safety effort, clarify, and resolve any confusion or problems stemming from insurer/client communication and review past experience.

•Adhere to the Risk Control Department Standard Operating Practices.


Desired Education Accomplishments:

B.A. or B.S. degree (i.e. related engineering, safety, health sciences, industrial hygiene, or related).

Desired Professional Designations:

Fire Protection Engineer or Certified Safety Professional or Certified Fire Protection Specialist or Certified Professional Ergonomist or Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Disaster Preparedness Planner or Certified Industrial Ergonomist or Associate in Risk Management or Associate Safety Professional designation.

Requires 5+ years related insurance carrier/broker loss control experience.

Superior knowledge of insurance industry practices, regulatory agency requirements and industry standards.

Workers’ Compensation & Liability loss prevention work experience in servicing agriculture, construction, general industry, hospitality, manufacturing and similar industry property and casualty accounts.

•Ability to maintain productive work relationships with clients, co-workers, employees, and management.

•Possess an ability to lead and motivate people.

•Ability to exercise mature judgment and suggest the appropriate action when working with USI employees, prospects and clients.

•Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to maintain a clear, understandable speaking voice, capable of communicating vital business information to internal/external contacts.

•Ability to drive a vehicle and maintain a valid, state-approved operators permit. Job duties of this position are performed at various client locations throughout California with limited (< 10%) out of State travel.

•Sufficient capability in cognitive reasoning to perform complex analytical and managerial functions with a high degree of accuracy.

•Capable of functioning independently, delegating work assignments, providing direction to others.

Ability to learn and utilize with proficiency - Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Explorer Internet software and Lotus Notes e-mail

Advanced property and safety loss prevention knowledge/experience a plus.
