Our Builders’ Risk program provides coverage for commercial and residential new construction and renovation. As a managing general underwriter, we work on behalf of top rated insurance carriers to create risk management programs that meet the unique needs of specific industries. Our Builders’ Risk program is designed for commercial and residential builders and provides property coverage for all types and sizes of projects, both new construction and renovation. We handle highly complex property risks/projects including those requiring multiple carrier and layered coverage. Our underwriters  analyze new and renewal accounts for the most complex assignments and serve as a subject matter expert to review insurance policy applications based on contract requirements of the facility agreement with the carrier. Responsibilities include assessing the risk to determine the appropriate price, coverage and terms and conditions, as well as taking policy to completion with recommending and binding coverage, invoicing and policy issuance. Underwrites within defined broad limits and authority. Establishes underwriting policy and procedures as well as providing reports to management. Develops and maintains a working relationship with producers and communicates effectively through broker negotiations to ensure profitable production. May be responsible for training and coaching other underwriting team members.


  • 3+ years of underwriting experience


  • Ability to review insurance policy applications for completeness, accuracy and acceptability of risk

  • Extensive use of Microsoft Excel and reporting systems

  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

  • Property/inland marine insurance underwriting experience with both Admitted and Non-admitted carriers including evaluation and application of RMS modeling results 

  • Builder’s risk and installation-specific insurance underwriting experience with ground-up, primary, excess, quota share and reporting form risks 

  • Industry relevant professional designations (e.g. CPCU, ASLI, ARM, etc.) 

  • Strong wholesale broker relationships

  • A BS/BA degree or higher
